The Work You Don’t Always See

May 02, 2026

Mother’s Day tends to sneak up in the middle of a very full season. School events, end-of-year activities, and never-ending to do lists don’t exactly allow us to slow down and make space for reflection. But it’s still a good opportunity to step back for a minute and think about what this role really looks like.

One thing I’ve come to appreciate more over time is how much of motherhood happens behind the scenes. It’s the constant mental tracking of schedules, the planning ahead, the remembering details that no one else is keeping up with. A lot of it isn’t visible, and it rarely gets acknowledged, but it’s what keeps a household running.

That idea of “behind the scenes” work is something I think about often in my role as a financial advisor too. Most of the value in financial planning doesn’t come from big, one-time decisions. It comes from the steady, ongoing choices that build on each other over time.

It’s making sure the right things are in place before they’re needed. It’s revisiting a plan when life changes. It’s paying attention to details that might seem small now but matter later.

In many ways, the mindset is similar. You’re thinking ahead, weighing trade-offs, and trying to make the best decisions you can with the information you have at the time. There isn’t always a clear or perfect answer, but consistency and intention go a long way.

Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be a big, perfect moment to be meaningful. Sometimes it’s just a reminder to recognize the effort that’s already happening every day.

For those in the middle of raising kids, managing schedules, and keeping everything moving forward, I hope you take a moment to feel good about the role you’re playing. It may not always be obvious in the day-to-day, but it matters more than you think.

Wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day.
